Luv 2 Read

This blog includes book reviews and recommendations for teen readers

Cassie and her family were doing pretty well until The Others came. First, everything powered down; airplanes, phones, cars, lights, everything. Then, only the ones who didn't get washed away survived. The third wave killed Cassie's mother, along with millions more, with a plague. The arrival of the Silencers, a group of 'Others' who were sent to kill leftover humans. That's when they came. For safety, the kids were taken to a military base, to be trained to fight. Including her younger brother, Sam. When she is accidentally left behind, she has to find her way back to him. When she is shot, she is helped by Evan, another teenager trying to survive. When she is finally healed, he helps her search for her brother, and that's when it hits: The 5th wave. I'll give the first book in the series four stars and second book three stars. I wish that the second one would have been at a slower pace. As for the first book, I felt as if it was written more clearly. I l...
The Lovely Reckless is about a teenager named Frankie whose boyfriend was murdered right in front of her. After the incident, everything went downhill. Mostly because she blames herself. She would have told the police what the killer looked like. That is, if she knew. All she remembers is seeing the horrid events happen. She can't remember his face, and it haunts her knowing that she can't help the police put him behind bars. They have no way of figuring it all out. No security cameras, no witnesses (other than Frankie, nothing. when her mom and step dad get tired of her behavior after she is caught drinking and driving, she is sent to her father, an undercover cop. The plus side is that she can go to school with two of her best friends, Lex and Abel. But on her first day, she already witnesses a fight, which is common in the Downs. Marco, one of the guys fighting, is soon attached to Frankie, as she is to him as well. He's very attractive, but Frankie is still cautious aro...
An Ember in the Ashes is a book about two characters with very different point of views. Laia lives with her her grandparents and older brother in a village with not much money, but enough. When soldiers come to their house for a raid, her grandparents are killed and her brother is taken. She barely escapes. Now on her own, she's determined to find her brother and set him free. She poses as a new slave at Blackcliff, trying to find information to report to the Resistance, a group in hiding that plans to fight back, while in return they will help her find her brother. But working as a slave is worse than ever imagined. Former slaves have been punished for the simplest of things. One even jumped off a cliff just to get away. Will she end up like the servants before her? Elias is the commandant's son and the most skilled soldier at Blackcliff. The commandant treats him as if he were just another worthless soldier. She resents him, believing that he's a mistake. Now that the t...
Pretty Little Liars is about five teenage girls who have many secrets. There's Emily, the 'nice one' who's crushing on the girl next door; Spencer, who gets perfect grades and has a thing with her sister's boyfriend; Aria, who has to keep a secret from her mom; Hannah, the used-to-be-overweight-but-now-looks-like-a-model; and last but certainly not least, Alison, the queen of the group who will tell you if your lipstick looks hideous, but doesn't let her secrets slip. That is until she disappears. No one ever found a body, but most people believe she's dead. But then the four girls, who have split up since the disappearance, all get personal texts from 'A'. All including secrets only Alison knew, but they come with threats. So the girls start to talk again, trying to figure out who 'A' is. It's can't Alison...Right? I give this book four stars. I wish the story had a little more ground to it, but other than that it was really good. ...
The Last Song is about a seventeen-year-old girl named Veronica “Ronnie” Miller’s life after it went spiraling downhill when her parents split up and her father moved to North Carolina. After three long years, she still remains angry with her parents, especially her father. When her mother decides it would be a good idea for Ronnie and her brother, Jonah, to spend the Summer in North Carolina with him, she's furious. Her father is a former pianist and teacher. Living a patient life by the beach, he's engaged in creating artwork for the church nearby. He lets Ronnie have her space, but he still tries to interact with her, even though she ignores him. She meets Will and they start off with many arguments, but they slowly start to fall for each other. Will she and her dad finally build a good relationship? Will she and Will's conflicts come betwee...
I know that pretty much everyone has read Harry Potter by now, but bear with me. I've only recently read the first book in the series. In my defense, I've only had fourteen years. Anyway, let's get to the review. Harry Potter has never heard of Hogwarts before the letters came. But before he could take even a peek at any of them, they are quickly confiscated by his obnoxious aunt and uncle. They try to keep them away, but every time they ignore one, a dozen more are sent. Angered, his uncle moves them to an empty cabin. On Harry's eleventh birthday, a giant man named Hagrid breaks into the cabin, claiming that Harry's a famous wizard, that has been invited to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. That's when his adventure begins. I, obviously, give this book five stars. My favorite characters are definitely the twins. If I had to choose between them, I'd say Fred. He seems more carefree. I guess it's because of how he says things. Maybe...
Me Before You is about an ordinary young woman named Louisa Clark. Louisa has never been out of the small village she and her family live in. When she applies for the only job she can find, she doesn't know what to expect. She gets the job and has to help care for Will Traynor, a man in a wheelchair. Will has pretty much traveled all over the world, until the accident that destroyed it all. He isn't happy about this new life and hasn't hidden his feelings. In fact, he's probably done the complete opposite. He has been moody, rude, and bossy. At first, Louisa doesn't say anything, but then she decides that he shouldn't be treated as a kid. Louisa ends up caring for him dearly and when she figures out his plans, she begins the mission to show him that life can still be extraordinary. He just has to accept that is won't be exactly the same as before. I loved this book. It deserves five stars. I love how realistic it is. The ending was kind of shocking, b...
Avalon High is about a teenage girl named Ellie. Ellie's parents are professors and they are offered their sabbaticals and they are renting a house elsewhere during their time off. Sadly, that includes Ellie movie along with them. She's most definitely not happy about the decision, but there's not much she can do about it. When they get there, she mostly stays to herself, but when she eventually went on a run, she meets Will. Will's the quarterback of her new school. He's not the typical jock, though. He's not cocky or rude. In fact, he's quite polite. Except, he has a girlfriend. So he's pretty much off limits. When she starts school, she gets assigned a project on King Arthur and everything starts to spiral. What happens between Will and her? Why does everything, in reality, seem to fit with the story of King Arther? And most importantly, who's trying to sabotage the reincarnation of King Arthur and his court? I give this book four stars. It wa...

I'm pretty sure most people know what Divergent is about, but I'll explain anyway. Divergent is about how Beatrice - or Tris - has to decide between five factions - Abnegation, Candor, Erudite, Amity, and Dauntless. The faction that she was born into is Abnegation. When she chooses Dauntless, her parents are devastated. Her brother, Caleb, leaves the faction, too. He chooses Erudite, which is for intelligent people. Now, Tris has to get through the initiation. Who can she trust? What happens when Four, one of the instructors, starts to show interest in her, what will happen? And can she get through initiation without becoming factionless? ...

What drew me in with this book was the short chapters. I don't know why, but it's so satisfying to be able to say you are on the 15th chapter in the first 10 minutes of reading it. Don't get me wrong, it's a normal length book, it just has a lot more chapters. Maximum Ride is about a fourteen-year-old girl named Max. Max was part of an experiment. An angel experiment. She practically lived in cages until Jeb helped her and five other kids escape from the horrid place. Sadly, Jeb died and they have been living on their own since, with Max in charge because she is the oldest. But when the Erasers, the School's wolf-human experiment, locate them at last Angel, the youngest and Max's favorite, is taken back to the place they hoped to never see or be anywhere near ever again. When they go to save her, will they get to her in time? Will they find out secrets they never knew? And most of all, will they make it out alive? This book is great for both males and fe...
Heartless is about a girl, named Catherine, who just wants to bake. She plans to start a bakery with her maid, Mary Ann, but her mom wants her to marry the king. Catherine is the daughter of a marquis and is expected to marry well and be lady-like. On the night of a ball, the king planned to propose to Catherine, until the Jabberwock, a horrible creature, crashes in. Catherine doesn't find out that the king wanted to propose, until a disappearing cat, Cheshire, tells her. She doesn't want to marry him, so she and Jest, the mysterious king's Joker, do their best to subtly avoid the question. Jest and Catherine fall in love and they secretly plan to leave Hearts and go back to Jests home, but fate has many different twists and turns, some good, most bad. I give this book four stars. Marissa Meyers did a great job with mixing in different characters from Alice and Wonderland, but the pace was a little fast. I liked it a lot. The story line was great. I recommend this boo...
SYNOPSIS Nine Lives of Chloe King is about a teenage girl who discovers she’s a mai, but not only that, she’s a special mai. She has nine lives. She falls in love with a human, Adam, and figures out she has a deadly kiss unless it’s a mai, and she does her best to stay away and keep him alive. During that, she starts to fall for another mai. She has to get through the danger and confusion, though, before she has time for a love life.
